Welcome to Owl Furniture.
We are a furniture design/build workshop located in the scenic coastal town of Stonington, Maine. Using innovative design and skilled craftsmanship we create furniture that is beautiful, durable and ergonomic from sustainably harvested American hardwoods.
In 2009 Geoffrey Warner began to develop a new focus for his designs based on a philosophy honoring community, economy and ecology. He wanted to build a stool that he could sit on for hours without feeling pressure on his ischial tuberosities (sit bones). Enlisting advice from his chiropractor Geoff designed the Owl Stool, a seat that removes sitting pressures and directly supports optimal spinal alignment. We are pleased to hear frequently from customers who report increased ease and comfort from their Owl stools. By offering kits and workshops as well as finished furniture we have built a loyal and appreciative customer base both within the U.S. and abroad.

THE EVOLUTION OF THE OWL STOOL
From the earliest Owl Stool designs, Geoff Warner was guided by a strong commitment to comfort and beauty. He brought the first Owl stool to his own chiropractor, Michael Aker of Blue Hill, Maine, for evaluation. Dr Aker loved the design and advised creating a 4 degree angle to cradle the pelvis at the optimal angle for good spinal alignment. We followed his advice, and the result is that, when someone sits on an Owl Stool for the first time they often remark on how effortless it is to sit up straight and how relaxed their back feels.

My inspiration as a furniture designer began with Scandinavian and Eastern influences. These forms were close to my heart many years ago when I studied with the Danish master, Tage Frid at the Rhode Island School of Design. After many years practicing as a designer, craftsman and solutionary I still find passion working with the natural beauty of wood. I said to a customer recently that I am a wood Doctor. They said “Really?” No, just kidding, but I love seeing how the Owl has provided such healthy, ergonomic comfort and relief for so many of our customers!
